A true Midwestern gem in the rough as far as resorts go. Located just to the Southwest of Milwaukee, Chestnut Mountain Resort in Galena, IL boasts one of the best terrain parks. Dubbed The Farside, its designed and maintained by snowboarders for snowboarders. Every season they throw a pretty raucous competition called The Big Nut Open.

This year’s event will be going down Saturday, February 25th and if its anything like past events it should surely be on your list of shred engagements. This event is open to all ages and will feature both a slopestyle and rail competition with an open class and age bracket in each discipline. For $15 you can compete in either event or for $20 get gnar in both. They also have very reasonable, top notch accommodations for those of you considering making a weekend out of it. The Rick Jameson Experience is a monthly party hosted by MODA3 employee and man about town Christopher “Why B” Gerard aka Rick Jameson. It brings together some of the best DJs and artists from Milwaukee and the Midwest for a night of music, drinks, dancing, live art and shenanigans. After years at the Jackalope Lounj it has found a new home at Rogues Gallery…Milwaukee’s newest hot spot owned by your favorite bartender’s favorite bartender Nathan “Rufio” Showers.

Professional party rocker, Chicago native and future lawyer DJ Pickel is coming to town this Saturday to watch the Bucks beat the Bulls. Win, lose or draw he will be joining Darth Fader and Why B in the DJ booth at Rogues Gallery after the game. They’ll be rocking jams to get you out yo seat and on yo feet. Andrew Azad will be there getting his live art on. Oh and of course Rufio, Mr. James and The Rogues Squad will be serving drinks, kissing hands and shaking babies.

Rick Jamo is always an experience. And it’s gotten even better since the move to its new home at Rogues Gallery. Let’s make party!

Get Banked | Tyrol Basin Banked Slalom Contest

Focus Boardshop out of Madison, incahoots with Tyrol Basin, proudly presents their 5th annual Banked Slalom Contest. The event will be going down this Saturday, February 4th at 11AM. It will be an epic day of taking turns on a fun banked slalom set up with friends that shouldn’t be missed. You can pre register online now HERE for just $15. If you aren’t certain you can make it you can register from 9-10:30AM the day of the event as well. They will have several brackets for those serious competitors that include mens 16 and under, 17-20, and 21+. Ladies you can come compete as well. The girls brackets will consist of 17 and under and 18+.

So if you are looking to get shreddy this weekend pack up the car and head up to Mt. Hoerb and get your banked slalom on!

Perfect 10 | Shaun White Earns Perfect Score

In case you missed it last night, Shaun White not only clinched his 5th consecutive X-Games gold medal in Superpipe but turned his victory run into one for the history books by piecing together a flawless performance and scoring 100/100! In doing so he also threw down some seriously epic maneuvers that have never been landed in ANY competition. After failing to land his show stopping frontside double cork 1260 in heat 2 White was determined to stomp it in his final run even though he was fending off injury and had already secured gold in heat 1 with a score of 94.

His final run looked something like this: 18-foot backside air, a fronstside double cork 1080, a Cab double cork 1080, a frontside stalefish 540, a double McTwist 1260 and the frontside double cork 12…All with an injured ankle that had forced him to pull out of the Slopestyle competition earlier in the day. A HUGE fist bump goes out to Burton team rider Shaun White for continuing to push the sport both in his evolution of tricks but also in that unmistakable fashion sense. Congratulation Shaun!

We would like to start by welcoming our new neighbors Smoke Shack to the neighborhood! It has been many months of anticipation and the day has finally come. Smoke Shack opened officially on January 24th and is sure to be a staple eatery in the Third Ward.

Last evening was the maiden voyage for me, and I’m sure it is going to be a regular lunch hotspot for all of us here at MODA3. If you are a fan of delicious BBQ or just delicious food in general, Smoke Shack is sure to please. Even the most seasoned BBQ connoisseurs are going to love the way they do it. Your food comes out smoked to perfection and unsauced, allowing you to create your own BBQ heaven. With homemade sauces that all have something different to offer, there is no better way to do it than on your own. Load it up and make a mess!

First impressions are so important nowadays and everything about Smoke Shack is done right. Beautifully remodeled and equipped with a friendly knowledgeable staff you are sure to find yourself coming back for more. The menu has everything from Candied Bacon with caramelized Nueske’s bacon and sweet potato fries to the staple Ribs, Brisket and everything in-between. Not to mention the corn bread (please don’t ask for butter you will ruin it)!
